PAVEMENT REHABILITATION WORKS ON RUNWAY 15/33
AND ASSOCIATED WORKS

1  INTRODUCTION

1.1  Pavement rehabilitation works will be carried out on Runway 15/33 and its associated Taxiways as part of Runway Sustainability Program. This runway had experienced differential settlement over the past few years. Periodical pavement rehabilitation works have been carried out to correct this settlement.

1.2  The pavement rehabilitation works on the runway and taxiway mainly comprise of the following scope of works:

  1. Surface overlay works to regulate undulating runway flexible pavement and rigid pavement (PQC) and associated works;

  2. Raising of existing slotted drains at the runway edge to match with the pavement overlay levels; and

  3. Re-profiling of the runway strip.

2  OBJECTIVES

2.1  The purpose of this AIP Supplement is to notify the aviation industry of the pavement rehabilitation works on Runway 15/33 and its associated works.

3  WORK SECTIONS

3.1  The work will be carried out in two packages.

3.1.1  Package 1

This package starts at Ch. -120 to Ch. 760. It includes works on parts of Taxiway Y1, Y2 and Y3. The pavement at Ch. 0 to Ch. 550 and Taxiways Y1 and Y2 are rigid pavement, and the remaining Sections are flexible pavement.

3.1.2   Package 2

This package comprise solely of flexible pavement and divided into three (3) sections:-

  1. Section A: Ch. 1380 to Ch. 1600;

  2. Section B: Ch. 1980 to Ch. 3140 and parts of Taxiways Y6 and Y7

  3. Section C: Ch. 3410 to Ch. 3860

3.1.3  All distances are taken from RWY15 threshold.

4  WORK SCHEDULE

4.1  The works at the 2 packages will be carried out at differing times.

4.1.1  Package 1

4.1.1.1  Works in Package 1 will be carried out from 1 October 2019 to 30 June 2020.

4.1.1.2  The runway will be shortened to 2810m to allow for continuous airport operations albeit with a shortened runway to allow for 24 hour works in the Zone.

4.1.1.3  Taxiways Y1, Y2 and Y3 will be closed to all operations and their taxiway center line and edge lights will be de-energised.

4.1.1.4  Aeronautical ground lights and pavement markings will appropriately depict this runway condition. Runway edge lights from Ch. 1150 to Ch. 1750 will be variable white/yellow colour to indicate the last 600m of RWY33.

4.1.1.5  A white transverse stripe will be provided at Ch.1150 supplemented by red temporary runway end lights located at Ch. 1147m to demarcate the runway end.

4.1.1.6  All other aeronautical ground lights from Ch. 0 to Ch. 1150 will be de-energised. Runway centre line lights along the length of the runway will also be de-energised.

4.1.1.7  Runway 15 will be unavailable for landing.

4.1.1.8  The declared distances for this phase of work are as follows:

4.1.2  Package 2

4.1.2.1  Works in Package 2 will be carried out within two different time slots viz:

Outside these times, the operational restrictions of the Runway as referred to in para 4.1.1 Package 1 applies.

230 April 2020 to 15 July 2020

except Sundays

Outside these times and until 30 June 2020, the operational restrictions of the Runway as referred to in para 4.1.1 Package 1 applies.

4.1.2.2  During this phase of the works and within the times in the above table, this runway (RWY15/33) will be closed to all operations.

4.1.2.3  From 29 February 2020 to 30 June 2020, and outside the Runway 15/33 closure times, only 2810m of the Runway 15/33 will be operational (refer to para 4.1.1 Package 1).

4.1.2.4  From 1 July 2020, after the end of each day’s work, the full length of Runway 15/33 will be operational.

5  IMPLEMENTATION

5.1  These various phases of the above works will be activated by NOTAM.

6  CANCELLATION

6.1  This AIP Supplement will remain current until the works are completed.
